There are a number of ways you can increase your website traffic. If your brand new to websites or blogs here’s a short list of 20 things that work that will help you get more website traffic and help your search engine rankings. Remember increasing your website traffic is not an overnight things, it’s takes time so be patient and keep working at it everyday and you’ll see results. Also avoid scams and “Black Hat SEO” tricks. These might help in the short run but long term it will ruin your sites ranking.
1. Add quality content
Want to know the best way to increase your website traffic, simple write content. This means that you write content that is packed full of useful information, is interesting or funny and gets potential visitors attention. Don’t copy and paste others work, unless you have their permission. Remember you can have the best looking fanciest website in the world, but without any good content it’s got nothing and you can bet nobody is going to visit.
2. Strategic placement of keywords
When adding keywords into the content of your site they have to look natural and not forced. You also want to watch the number of keywords you use, too many and the search engines think its spam. And don’t be afraid to use long tail keywords, sure these might not get as many hits as two word phrases. But the completion to rank higher for them is easier, especially if your website or blog is brand new.
3. Leave good comments on blogs, other websites, and forums
Leaving comments on other blogs and websites is a great way to increase your website traffic. Make sure you’re comments stand out from the completion, and offer something of value to their site. Writing something such as “Hi cool site come visit mine at www.my comments are lame and so is my website.blah” isn’t going to work. And don’t spam about how great your site is, or about your business, I hate these kind of comments and delete them and I guarantee you that 99 percent of other site owners do the same, so don’t be an idiot that does you’ll only make yourself look like an ass.
4. Post links on Twitter
Twitter is a great source of website traffic. Post your latest articles, videos and other useful information. Like any social networking site you get what you put into it, so make sure you follow others, re-tweet posts you find interesting and be active (time permitting of course.
5. Submit content to social book marking sites
Not only do these kinds of sites have good page rank they provide a valuable back link to your site. These kinds of links especially from sites such as Digg and Stumbleupon can also help get your site indexed faster on Google because there content is crawled daily.
6. Submit your RSS feed to RSS directories
Just like you would submit your website url address you should submit your RSS feed url to directories as well.
7. Create videos
YouTube is the most searched site on the internet today, so why not make some videos and tap into that traffic source. Create tutorial videos, a video blog (vlog for short) or even fan videos of your favourite movies and music. Make sure to include a link back to your site and you can start getting traffic from this source.

People hate sites that take forever to load and will leave if it takes longer then a couple seconds. Keep people on your site by keeping the number of widgets to a minimum, shrink videos and pictures to reduce their file size, and shorten pages or break up articles.
9. Write some articles
Write articles, Squidoo lens pages, and Hub pages that have at least one link back to your site.
10. Have an RSS feed
RSS feeds are one way people can find out about updates on your site and visit. If you don’t have an RSS feed on your website there are plenty of free sites where you can create one in a couple minutes.

Doing this opens you up to a whole new audience that you might not have had before. It can also give you the opportunity to write about different subjects to expand your writing muscles.

Taking some time to respond to comments is a good way to build relationships with your visitors; it also adds content to your pages and creates discussions getting people to return over and over to post new comments. Of course if the comment is nothing but spam, or something hateful then delete them.

Posting ads on these kinds of sites is a great way to get more traffic. I’ve had the best results from Craigslist. It’s important to note with Craigslist that there not big fans of websites being posted on their site, they also won’t let you post in multiple cities.

These help you to find what content is being viewed the most and then write additional posts related to that content.
16. Use Google Keyword tool to find content to write about.
How this works is you type in a question such as how to promote your website offline for example. Look for keywords that have low completion, meaning only a few thousand or less pages use that keyword. Then write a post using that keyword as the title and main keyword for it. Because of the low completion you should easily rank somewhere on the top page. Even if that keyword gets a few hundred hit’s a month it will still increase your website traffic. Repeat this several times and your traffic will climb.

You probably won’t have the best site on the internet, so what. As long as you have a clear and easy way for people to get from one page or another, they won’t get frustrated and leave because they can’t find what they want. One of the easiest ways to do this is to have a site map with a link in your menu bar. Your site map should display a link to every page on your site, making it easy for visitors to find what their looking for.
18. Promote your site offline to get more traffic
This can involve things like using business cards, flyers, placing an ad in a newspaper, and placing ads on your car are just a couple ways you can promote your website to help increase your website traffic

Use sites like Google Keyword tool and Word Tracker to find relevant keywords you can use to get listed on search engines.
20. Be consistent and have a schedule
Update your site on a regular basis with new content, fix problems and submit your links. Adding content on a schedule such as every second day will give visitors a reason to keep coming back. Plus the more content and the more changes you make to your site the more you can ping to notify the search engines you updated your content. This means your site will be crawled more and indexed faster by the search engines.
