How To Create An RSS Feed For Your Website

So what is RSS ?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary; it's an XML based content format for distributing things like news, headlines, content, etc. These are popular because instead of relying on them to bookmark your site and return later, their RSS reader keeps your site fresh by showing them your latest posts as a simple headline. So every time that you add content such as a blog post or article they get to see the update, plus a direct link to that post.

Another big advantage is that your feeds can be used by others as content for their sites. If your site interests them then can link your feed to their site with some simple HTML code, giving you even more traffic.

How to create an RSS feed

Blog sites such asBlogger and Word Press come automatically with an RSS feed that auto updates every time you post new content. For a website though many don’t have this feature included, leaving you to create your own. To create your own RSS feed you can either opt to create your own using some XML code (which I’ve never done, and if you’re brand new to websites I would recommend you avoid unless you’re very comfortable with that sort of thing) or to create an RSS feed using a feed generator tool.

Creating an RSS feed with a generator tool is a much faster and simpler way to go. Below is a video showing you how to create a free RSS feed in just a couple minutes using a website called Rapid Feeds.

Here are all the steps in case you missed something

1.Go to Google and type in Rapid Feeds

2. Sign up an account and pick a name for your new RSS feed.

3. After you fill out the form start adding all the posts you want to include in your new feed
. Remember to include the URL, title, and a brief description of each post. To save yourself some time you can use the opening paragraph or statement of your post.

4. After you add all the items you want in your feed, click publish. This will display an address for your feed site that you can use to submit to RSS feed directories to help get more traffic.

5. Grab a feed button and add it to your site.

It’s important to remember that this will only create a static feed meaning that every time you create new content you have to go back to Rapid Feeds and add the new post. Also if you decide to choose the free account you only can have one feed per account, of course you can create as many accounts using different emails if you want. The free option also limits you to only a few additional features, you won’t be able to track your feeds stats or other advanced options.

If you want to have more options for your feed, or you want to place advertisements in it to earn extra revenue you can add your feed to a site called Feed Burner. Feed Burner will allow you to consolidate all your feeds in one location to track their stats, create RSS feed buttons, auto ping and other features.

To add your feeds to Feed Burner simply take the URL provided by Rapid Feeds when you publish your feed and submit it to Feed Burner. You’ll still need to go back to Rapid Feeds to update the content but Feed Burner will automatically update as well, usually within 30 minutes after you post it.

Other sites you can create an RSS feed are www.feedroll.com and www.rssfeedgenerate.com. Feed roll allows you to create a feed using downloaded software. This site will only give you a 30 day trial period, for a permanent feed you’ll need to pay about 10 dollars. RSS Feed Generate is completely free and is easy to set up
