The recent Google Panda update was like a slap in the face for many website owners. Many became complacent thanks in part to link farms, article spinning or other forms of mass publishing a truck load of content at once. Because the Panda update recognized a lot of these as spam or lower quality content many sites were hit hard. Some losing more then 50% of their traffic overnight regardless if the site was legit or not.

So how do you keep your sites in Google’s good books? The simple answer is to give more value to your content and give your visitors something more. After all their the ones who are going to read your content, comment, or buy what your trying to sell. What many simply do is write longer content pages, but there are other things you can do to give more value to your content, make it shareable, and encourage people to come back all while keeping on the good side of Google and it’s panda update.

Here are 3 of the best things you can do add value to your content.

1. Add some multimedia

People are visual creatures, we like shiny things. This doesn’t just include standard images, but slideshows, info graphics, and videos. All of these can help reinforce what you’re trying to get across, or provide additional information without you having to write another block of text.

These kinds of things also help change to pace and break up large text chunks that your visitors might drown out. Let’s face it people get bored easily, and having a page with nothing but text can come across as boring or too much to process.

Another upside is that people like to share multimedia elements. Having a video with a share link for example gives people an easy way to share your content through social media sites.

2. Increase your interaction

Take a look at any social media stream and you can see how people connect and interact. It doesn’t matter what social site you use, Twitter, Facebook, Google+ the platform is irrelevant because they all produce the same effect. And that is that they get people talking and sharing. And their not just talking about what they had for lunch or who they think is hot or butt ugly. Their talking about the products and services they prefer. It’s no wonder Google is going bonkers trying to get into the social networking scene with Google+.

You want the same kind of thing to be happening to your site. You want people talking and asking questions on your site. Regardless if it’s a blog or website you should always be trying to encourage comments and discussions. Ask a question; be controversial, whatever it is that you find works best for you do it.

Make sure your site has some type of comment box so these questions or comments can add additional value to your pages. There are lots of free ones out there that will also display your comments on your social sites like Facebooks comment box or Twitter feed.

3. Make every page kick ass

One big thing the panda update hates is a general lack of quality, originality, and value. Sure you can add all sorts of fancy ass images, cutting edge web design, and some sweet videos, but these in themselves won’t automatically give your pages a higher value. You’re not going to get anywhere if the overall content sucks, and not the good kind of sucks like the prom queen. But rather the bad kind where everyone points and laughs at you.

Treat each and every page of your site as if you were going to hand it to a newspaper or magazine to be printed. Would you want to hand them some random junk, probably not. It doesn’t matter what the content of your site is about put the time in and do the best job that you can. So while the first two points can really help this is your bread and butter.

In summary there is no easy copy and paste get a billion hit’s a day solution. It takes time, work, and patience. But if you incorporate these 3 things into your website or blog, you will see positive results.
