When people think of advertising on their website their minds usually thinks of Google Adsense. It’s the biggest and best known after all and extremely easy to put into your site. In my personnel experience Google Adsense has worked well, however they have an extremely strict set of rules. These rules mean that a lot of sites can’t use Adsense on their site by default. Google is also notorious for banning accounts with no warning. Just look online and you easily find story after story about people losing their Adsense accounts for no apparent reason. Like I said I use Adsene and haven’t had any problems or have any complaints about them…….so far.

But just because Google is the biggest player doesn’t mean their the only one. So if your account with Adsense was banned and you’re looking for a new source of online revenue. Or you can’t stand Google and don’t want to deal with them, here is a list of some alternatives to Google Adsense worth checking out.

Infolinks is a contextual or in text advertising site. Once you’re approved you simple add a bit of HTML code onto the pages of your website or blog. Once in place keywords are selected and become highlighted turning into ad links that when scrolled over display and ad for your visitors to click. They also have a new feature called “related tags” These display a menu bar containing useful tags which Infolinks claims can increase your revenue by as much as 30 percent.

Infolinks claims to also have the highest payout of any contextual advertiser on the internet. I can’t guarantee this as fact or not but I have had some success with them, and despite their Infolinks O campaign to get you to ask sites to sign up with them (which in a way is almost spamming) they offer a service that’s worth looking into.

Probably the best alternative to Adsense out there and the most like them. They don’t offer the same number of ads Google Adsense does but they do offer all the popular ones and the ability to color match them to your site. They also offer some things Google Adsense doesn’t such as full page ads that pop up when a visitor views a certain number of pages. In text ads displaying up to 8 links. And the ability to turn off Adbrite’s “run-of-network-ads” giving you control over which ads can be displayed on your website.

Another thing that separates Adbrite from Adsense is they have a much lower payout. You can start receiving cheques when you reach as little as 10 dollars compared to Google’s 100 minimum.

The only downside (and its minor) is that it can take a day or a little longer once you implement the ad code for ads to be displayed, leaving a blank space with “Your ad here” or whatever alternative you decided to use.

This is another alternative to Adsense that has much of the same look and feel of Adsense. Bidvitiser allows its users what they refer to as free design. This means that you can customize the look and size of your ads rather then going with more traditional pre sized ads.

They also offer a tool bar you can use to generate revenue as well. When people use your toolbar you earn money.  You can customize the toolbar with logos, links to your site, and add any other button or service you think is useful.

4. Chitika (chih-tih-ka)

Chitika offers something different then the standard keyword driven advertising. They now use what they call “premium ads” these are ads that use their click prediction technology to determine and show ads that have a greater chance of being clicked. Setup is extremely fast and simple, and allows you to easily customize ads to match the content of your site.

Chitika ads are also a little different from other types of advertisements that are either image or text based. Because they don’t display full image banners such as Adbrite they can use to compliment other ads on your site.

When it comes to alternatives to Google Adsense, Dynamic Oxygen is a relative new comer having only been around since 2010. So why should you check them out? Because unlike the majority of ad sites Dynamic Oxygen supports and pays for worldwide traffic and doesn’t just cater to the U.S. They also don’t just focus on high end, high turnover publishers but to publishers of sizes, shapes, and popularity.

What makes Clicksor stand out from Adsense as an alternative is their high payouts which can be up to 85%. And from the reviews I’ve heard are also much more tolerant then Google Adsense meaning your site unless it has some really nasty negative content will probably be approved.

Clicksor ads are content sensitive so your ads will match the content of your site. This feature is automatic so you save time from having to specify what keywords your ad will have. You can also add as many websites or blogs to your account as you like.

What makes this stand out from almost every other alternative to ad sense is that they don’t display ads until your visitors leave your site by clicking the back button. Exit Junction claims that you can use their service with Google Adsense. However Google looks down at this type of advertising as sneaky since it’s puts a barrier between your visitor getting back to the search engine page or whatever page they came from. So if you’re using Google Adsense I don’t recommend this site, if you’re not then its fine.

I just found out about this one the other day. Affinity offers two types of services one is in text advertising like Infolinks, the other is what they call an ad cloud. This is the same as a tag cloud except the keywords that are displayed are ads.

10. Amazon

Amazon uses commission based ads to sell products, these range from electronics, to clothes, to even car parts. You’re started at 4% commission on every product you sell; the more you sell however the higher your commission rises going up as high as 7%. This doesn’t sound like much but when you sell expensive items it can earn you a lot of money.
Amazon also gives you the option to set up your own online store using their products. You can customize your stores look to match your website and can either link to it like a webpage or use an I-frame to display it directly on your website.

This isn’t an alternative I recommend for everybody but if your site does product reviews for example this would be a good choice.

Another commission based advertiser Commission Junction works in a similar way to Amazon. The difference between the two is that you apply to companies who use their service such as GoDaddy.com. If approved you can ad their banners to your site. Depending on the banner you’ll be paid a certain amount when a visitor clicks on the ad and buys that product or service.

You can turn your posts themselves into a source of revenue with this site. How it works is that write reviews on products, companies, or websites and you’re paid a certain amount for each post. This varies by the companies that make you an offer, how many words are required, and if there needs to be any links.
