How To Keep Your Adsense Account From Being Banned

If you have an Adsense account you’ve probably heard some of the horror stories about people having their Adsense account banned, their earnings held by Google, and being basically left out in the cold with no revenue coming into their site. And while it can happen without warning (Google is notorious for making policy changes and not notifying anyone or always offering a clear explanation) most of the time it’s the fault of the owner of the site. This is either because they didn’t take the time to terms of service and had their Adsense account banned. Or they got caught trying to cheat the system and as a result have a banned Adsense account.

So how do you keep your Adsense account from being banned? Here is a list of things either your site needs or that you shouldn’t do if you want to keep your account. And while there are alternatives to Adsense many of these rules apply to them as well.

1. Have a privacy policy

If you want to use affiliate advertising and your website collects any visitor information, you must have a privacy policy, without this your Adsense account will be banned. A privacy policy covers your ass because it lets visitors know exactly what you’re doing with any information you collect from them and if you distribute it to a third party. There are dozens of sites that offer free privacy policy creators that you can copy and paste on your site. One that I use is from http://www.serprank.com/privacy-policy-generator/

2. Don’t click on your own ads

You would think this would be a no brainer right? Apparently not because it seems a lot of people have their Adsense account banned for doing this. While Google does tolerate the occasional “accidental” click which can happen. Deliberately clicking on your own ads will get you banned very quickly. Also these clicks don’t count, so even if you do it by accident you won’t make any money from it.

3. Asking others to click on your ads

Google makes it very clear that you can’t have anything on your site asking people to click on your ads. You can also be banned if you try to ask others to click on your ads from other sites. I’ve known a couple people from a site called Blog Catalogue who not only had their Adsense account banned, but were also kicked off the blog site as well.

4. Putting Ads on sites that contain hate, or promote guns and drugs

While nobody is saying you can’t have a site that promotes these types of things, Google doesn’t want their ads displayed on these types of sites and will ban your Adsense account very quickly if they are. Your account will also be banned if you display Google ads on sites that have content that has been flagged as infringing on copyright, alcohol, and knock off clothing or items.

If your site also has questionable content such as porn for example, displaying ads on these types of sites will also get your Adsense account disabled.

5. Profanity

I have no idea what Google considers excessive profanity. Obviously if every second word is a swear word then you either want to change this or remove those ads to avoid your Adsense account from being banned. While I’m sure the occasionally one is fine it’s good practice to avoid it if possible.

6. Pages with no content

Don’t create a bunch of pages with nothing but ads on them. Your pages need to have a decent amount of content to keep from getting banned. Google thrives on content after all and the more of that you have the better you look in their eyes. You should also avoid putting ads on registration and “thank you” pages because these will also get your Adsense account banned.

7. Using automation software to click on ads

Google only wants clicks from real people not bots. If you use some type of automation software to try to trick and cheat the system, your account will be banned fast. You also want to avoid placing ads on pop ups that keep creating more pop ups. Not only does this really annoy your visitors but Google hates it as well and will ban your account for doing it.

8. Made for Adsense sites

If you want a website or blog that not only gets your Adsense account banned, but will get you kicked off the search engines as well then this is the type of website you want to create. If you don’t want to get banned then don’t create this type of site. Made for Adsense Sites or MFA’s for short are specifically designed to target clicks from ads. They do this by not providing visitors with good content in an attempt to trick them into clicking on their ads.

9. Avoid certain traffic sources

There are some traffic sources that will actually get your account banned. These include sources such as paid to click programs, or programs that spam emails or display ads as the result of some type of software application.

10. Don’t alter the code

When you go to place an ad on your site you’re given a bit of HTML code to copy and paste. Whatever you do DO NOT ALTER THE CODE in any way to try to trick visitors to click your ad, make it a pop up ad or anything else.

11. Site behaviour

In order to keep your Adsense account in good standing your website or blog needs to be easy to navigate, can’t change user preferences, and redirect your visitors to unwanted websites. They also cannot initiate any downloads, or anything that interferes with site navigation.

12. Ignore the warnings

This doesn’t always happen but Google will send you a warning if you’re doing something wrong that could result in your account being banned. If you do get a warning don’t ignore it and hope it goes away. Doing that will guarantee your Adsense account will be banned. Instead read the warning and respond, find out what you’re doing wrong and fix it.

Remember to check up on their terms of service in case of any changes and report anything suspicious with Google Adsense as soon as you notice it to help keep your account in good standing. By doing that and following the rules you won’t have to worry about your account ever being banned.
