Google Keyword Tool And Google Traffic Estimator

Google Keyword Tool and Google Traffic Estimator, both of which are free tools provided by Google to help you analyze and find keywords that you can use to help promote your website and drive targeted traffic to it. And while these tools are very similar (there pages look almost identical) there are some key differences between the two free tools.

Google Traffic Estimator

Because the majority of Google’s income comes through Adsense, Google traffic estimator was created. This free tool allows advertisers to research specific keywords they want to use to promote their website or business. Traffic estimator provides details about global and local search trends, if that particular keyword is increasing or decreasing in it’s monthly views, and it provides the average CPC rate (Cost per click) to bid for that keyword. It’s important to remember that all CPC rates are calculated in U.S dollars.

This estimator tool also provides a detailed analysis called Google insights for search, which appears beside your chosen keyword as little magnifying glass. When clicked it opens another window that displays by default the traffic trends for the last 12 months. It also shows which countries have the largest interest for that keyword. These settings can all be changed to fit your search criteria.

Google Keyword Tool

For the most part Google keyword tool is the exact same as Google traffic estimator. They both have almost the identical layout. Both sites use Google insights for search which appear on both sites as a small magnifying glass beside the keyword. And both sites display the same information beside the keywords such as global monthly searches, and local searches.

What’s different though is that where traffic estimator displays the information of one keyword, keyword tool will display not only your selected keyword or phrase, but other related keywords as well. Say for example you wanted to use “the razors edge” as your keyword phrase that term would be the first one displayed but you would also get related keywords such as

Razors edge

Razors edge software

ACDC the razors edge

The razors edge lyrics

All these keywords have different search numbers and traffic trends. For example the keyword “razors edge" has for global monthly searches 60,500, where “ACDC the razors edge” has only 3600. It’s important to remember with global and local search numbers that these are an estimate not exact figures, but they still give you a good clue as to what people are looking for. You should also remember that those numbers also represent the number of people who searched for that keyword, that doesn’t mean that if you are ranked number one for that keyword that your going to have that much traffic per month.

You’ll also notice that no CPC rate is displayed instead there is something called local search trends which display a small graph that displays in green a rough estimate of the popularity of that keyword or phrase.

In summary these are two free tools you should use to help find relevant keywords, and keywords that you can rank well on to promote your website and drive up traffic.
