Outbound linking it seems to go against the grain to get your site noticed. You’ve probably heard over and over again about the importance of having high quality back links pointing to your site, these links help boost your search ranking, page rank, and hopefully get you some more traffic. Outbound linking you would think would be the opposite of that. It turns out though that outbound links are good for you. Having quality outbound links can have some big benefits                                                   to your website or blog.

So why are outbound links important? Here are a few reasons why you should include them on your site.

1. Helps to establish a new site

Getting traffic to a new website is tough. It’s a good idea to start by including a few outbound links as these will connect your site to web. They give your site social proof and show that you are willing to provide something for your visitors.

2. Credibility

Let’s say you visit a website with lots of information but not a single outbound link anywhere, would you trust that site or be suspicious of it? Some might, a lot of others wouldn’t. It’s also another way for you to become an authority on a particular subject or niche. If your site provides resources beyond what it has that helps, informs, or entertains your visitors they’ll probably come back for more.

After all it’s people you have to please not the search bots.

3. it’s just how the search engines work

The internet is a complex web of interlinking websites, blogs, forums, and everything else all mixed together. When the bots crawl the web looking for new content to index and rank, they go from site to site following links. It’s also another way they check for relevant content and determine what neighbourhood your content belongs with to determine search results.

Of course this doesn’t mean that you should just go out and link to everyone and everything. You want to take the time and link to sites that you think offer the best value to your visitors, while avoiding spam and garbage sites that could put your site in a negative light.

Spend some time and monitor your outbound links from time to time. Just because the URL stays the same doesn’t mean that website does. Sites change all the time and what used to be a legit site about travel tips or whatever one day could end up being something you don’t want to link to the next.

The recent Google Panda update was like a slap in the face for many website owners. Many became complacent thanks in part to link farms, article spinning or other forms of mass publishing a truck load of content at once. Because the Panda update recognized a lot of these as spam or lower quality content many sites were hit hard. Some losing more then 50% of their traffic overnight regardless if the site was legit or not........
