How To Ask For Back Links

In my last post I showed some of the ways that will get your link request shot down. For this post I’m going to show you how you can get those back links using some simple link building strategies to get back links and increase traffic to your website.

Google Page Rank

Before you start looking to get back links to your site what’s your page rank? A lot of sites owners don’t want links from sites that don’t have page rank. They want links from sites that will in time help boost their own traffic and a site with low or no page rank isn’t appealing compared to a site with a rank of 5 for example. Google also judges a site based on the number of high ranking pages that link back to that site, more high ranking pages equals more popular.

To boost your page rank concentrate building links from link directories such as Digg, Reddit, and Stumbleupon. There are dozens of these sites and most have page ranks of 6 and up. Also add content to your site on a regular basis and remember to ping your site whenever you add new content to alert the search engines of changes to get indexed faster.

Comments

Another way to secure one way backlinks is through comments on other websites or blogs. Most blogs though are considered “No Follow” this means that they may not be counted as actual back links in the eyes of Google, but their still useful for getting your site indexed and to market your website.

When leaving comments always leave a comment that has value and adds something to the post. For example if a post is about fixing a T.V and you know a lot about TV’s because that’s what your website is about, then suggest a tip to help fix them. This adds value and helps market your website by showing that you’re an expert in that area.

Link Exchanges

Link exchanges don’t hold the same power as one way links, but when it comes to getting traffic to your website they still work and they should still be part of your link building strategy. To get these links you can do this a couple ways. The first is to look for sites that are actively looking for link exchanges. You can find them by doing a Google search, typing in the type of site you’re looking for and adding “link exchange” in quotation marks.

The second way is to advertise that you’re looking for links. This can be done on sites like Site Point where you can advertise for free that you’re looking to get back links. If your site is a blog, blog directories such as Blog Catalogue are full of new and experienced bloggers looking to get more traffic to their sites by exchanging links, guest bloggers, or even asking people to click on their ads (I would try to stay away from those because it can be considered click fraud and get you kicked off the site and potentially from Google Adsense if your using them)

Email

For some sites the only way you can contact them is through email. Make sure before you send an email to the sites owner that you spend a little time and research what their sites about. You also want to know who you’re going to be sending the message to, most sites will have some form of “About Me” page that gives a brief overview of who they are, and what their site is all about. You also don’t want to bore them with a long drawn out email explaining the importance of back linking and your life story. Keep it short, simple, and polite.

It’s also a good idea to add their link first as a sign of good faith rather then just expecting them to do it. However like I mentioned in my last post (How not to ask for backlinks) don’t send an email basically harassing them to link back by telling them your going to pull the link if the don’t link to you. If they don’t want to link they won’t, and you can always remove it if that’s the case.

Your email should look a little like this example

Hello (insert their name here)

My name is Joe Bloggins, I have a website called www. Joe Bloggins Website.com and am very interested in exchanging links with you. If you’re interested please add the anchor text and URL link to your website and email me back. Once I see the link up I will add yours right away (that’s if you haven’t already done so)

Anchor: Joe Bloggins Site

URL: http://www. Joe Bloggins Website.com

It’s about as simple as that. If you don’t hear back from them you can always send another email, just remember not to send dozens asking why they haven’t linked to your site. Also don’t sweat it and get frustrated because they decided not to. You’re going to find that many sites won’t link back either because the sites owner hasn’t bothered doing anything to their site in awhile, their swamped with other things, or they simply don’t want to link to you. There just one link and there are countless others to link to.
