It’s no secret that having great content on your site is the corner stone to getting visitors and keeping them interested. But what happens when you can’t come up with any ideas? It can be frustrating trying to come up with something you hope your visitors will like on a regular schedule if your mind is blank. Fortunate there are lots of places to find content ideas for your website. Here is a list of 11 places to look for website content ideas.
I do have to stress that looking for ideas doesn’t mean copying another website or blog post, or simply spinning some text to make it look like your own when it really isn’t. And with the recent Panda update Google is much keener or finding this sort of content. Always write your own content in your own words.
1. Google Alerts
One of the first places you should use to find content ideas for your website is Google Alerts. It’s a free service (like almost everything Google makes) and it works by sending you emails daily related to topics you’re looking for.
2. Google Trends
Google trends is another free service that can help you find ideas for your website. What trends does is lets you see what people are searching for and if that is rising, decreasing or staying the same. This is a good resource to look for hot topics or trends that can help bring more visitors to your site.
3. Forums
Another great place for content ideas for your website is forums. There are virtually forums on every subject. Check out ones related to your niche to see what’s being asked or talked about for inspiration.
4. Ask your readers for feedback
This is a good idea not only for content ideas but to help point out any problem spots on your site. Create a post asking for feedback, or a poll asking a question. You can even make a contest out of it. Either way these also have the benefit of getting your visitors to interact with your site.
5. Google Analytics
As you can tell Google has a tonne of services you can use. Analytics not only tracks the performance of your website or blog, but it can also be used to get ideas for new content. What I find works is to look at the keywords being used to find your site and look for common ones that show up a lot. Then write posts based off those keywords. You can even include those keywords into the text of your new posts to rank for them.
6. Google Sparks
If you’re not yet familiar with Google’s new social network Google Plus, sparks is a feature on it. It works sort of like Google Alerts, by typing a search term or keyword a list of sites are displayed. You can then browse these sites to see what topics their talking about to draw ideas from.
7. Comments
Comments are another source of ideas for your website. If they ask a question you can respond to that answer by writing a post about it.
8. Yahoo Answers
Like forums Yahoo Answers is a place people go to ask questions about things they can’t find. The bonus from this is that not only do you get points when you answer a question but when you reach a certain level you can post your link as part of the answer getting yourself some easy back links. If you don’t mind having to scroll through some really immature and stupid questions this is a good place to find some ideas to write about.
9. Wordtracker Keyword Question Tool
