7 Tips To Be A Successful Guest Blogger

Guest blogging or guest posting depending on how you call it is another way you can spread the word about your site by attracting visitors you might not normally get. If done right it’ll not only build good relationships with other sites but can drive that every so sought after targeted traffic to your site. The problem is getting it right, all too often guest posts are nothing but a long winded advertisement for their site that offers nothing of any real value. A spammy guest post won’t do you any good other then give your site a bad reputation. Here are some tips to be a successful guest blogger.

1. Seek out those open to guest blogging

The best place to start looking guest post is to look at the blogs and website you’re actively following and commenting on. You already have an established relationship with these sites so chances are good they’ll be more receptive to you guest blogging for them.

Keep an eye out for blogs who are announcing that their sick or going on vacation and will be offline for awhile. Also check Google and sites such as My Blog Guest http://myblogguest.com/ for guest posting opportunities. Make sure that you spend some time and get familiar with any new sites to understand what their criteria are.

2. Write the guest post in advance

Some sites don’t mind you pitching them ideas, others who probably never heard of you before might simply reject you before giving you a chance. To avoid being rejected contact the site owner and send them an email with part of your post. Don’t send them the whole thing; just give them a small chunk like the opening paragraph. If you send them everything they could just take it and publish it on their site as their own without giving you any credit or back links.

Sending them a small piece of your post gives them a chance to see how you write and if it would be a good fit or not. If they decide they don’t like it you have at least a new post you can publish on your site instead.

3. Write the perfect pitch

This goes hand in hand with #2. Whenever your pitching a guest post, treat it the exact same as you would be asking for back links. Find out the site owners name and address them by it in your email or contact form. Remember your manners and don’t be impersonal, nobody likes a jerk so don’t come off as one.

4. Give your guest post some tlc

When writing a guest post you want to give as much care into how you write it as you would any content on your site. This is your chance to shine and grab some people’s attention. So if you write half assed garbage, your potential visitors are going to think your whole site is the same and not visit.

5. Give them something they don’t have

You should be doing some research about the site your posting to before you give them your first guest post. You should be looking at the topics they’ve covered and what kind of questions are being asked. If the blog or website is more geared toward entertaining rather then information, give them something that’s going to stand out.

6. Promote your guest post

So you wrote a kick ass guest blog, they accepted it and it’s on their site. Does this mean it’s all over? No one of the best things about guest blogging is the cross promotion you can gain by using both sites social networks and links. Let your readers know about your guest post, tweet and stumble it. Whatever format you use get the word out about your new guest blog. Also the more eyeballs you can get on that content the higher your chances that they’ll want more posts from you.

7. Be a stalker

No this doesn’t mean you find out where they live and stare into their bed room window all night. What this means is that you should be treating comments on your guest post as if it’s on your site. You goal here is to win over new visitors by answering any questions or comments they have promptly.
